Zaporizhstal increased the production of rolled products by 3.3% m/m in October

In October 2023, Zaporizhstal Iron and Steel Works increased the production of rolled products by 3.3% compared to the previous month – up to 208.6 thousand tons. This is reported in the press release.

In October, the volume of pig iron production increased by 3.8% compared to September – up to 267.3 thousand tons. Steel output for the month increased by 2.1% m/m – up to 251.7 thousand tons.

Compared to October 2022, in October 2023 Zaporizhstal increased the production of pig iron by 70.3%. Production of steel increased by 2.07 times y/y, and production of rolled products – by 2.05 times.

«The increase in the level of production in October 2023 compared to the same period last year is related to the removal of blast furnace №2 from the hot preservation mode and the adjustment of the operating mode of three blast furnaces,» the message states.

In January-October 2023, production output at Zaporizhstal increased by 37.9% year-on-year – up to 5.84 million tons. In particular, the plant produced:

  • pig iron – 2.19 million tons (+27.1% y/y);
  • steel – 1.997 million tons (+49.7%);
  • rolled goods – 1.65 million tons (+40.6%).

In March 2023, Zaporizhstal took out the blast furnace №2 from forced hot preservation. At the end of May 2023, the combine reported on shutdown of blast furnace №3 for overhaul of Class II. Investments in the restoration of the unit were planned at the level of UAH 200 million. On June 19 the plant announced on the completion of blast furnace repairs and the start of unit inflation.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2022 Zaporizhstal reduced pig iron output by 54.3% compared to 2021 – to 2.01 million tons. Steel production decreased by 61.7% – to 1.49 million tons, and the production of rolled products – by 60.4%, to 1.304 million tons.
