In May 2023, the Zaporizhstal Iron and Steel Works increased the production of rolled products by 45.9% compared to the same month in 2022 – up to 180.5 thousand tons. This is stated in the enterprise’s press release.
In May, the volume of pig iron production increased by 46.7% compared to May 2022 – up to 229.6 thousand tons. Steel output increased by 62% y/y over the month – up to 213.3 thousand tons.
“The increase in production in May 2023 compared to the same period last year is due to the withdrawal of blast furnace №2 from the hot conservation mode and the debugging of the operation mode of three blast furnaces,” the report says.
Compared to April 2023, in May Zaporizhstal reduced the production of pig iron by 0.9%, steel – by 15.6%, and rolled products – by 12%. The reduction in performance is caused by stoppage of blast furnace №3 in the second half of May at the overhaul of the II category .

In March 2023, Zaporizhstal took the blast furnace №2 out of forced hot preservation. From now on, the blast furnace shop of the enterprise will work with three blast furnaces. The blast furnace will reach its planned capacity in the first decade of April.
As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2022, Zaporizhstal reduced pig iron output by 54.3% compared to 2021 – to 2.01 million tons. Steel production decreased by 61.7% – to 1.49 million tons, and rolled products production – by 60.4%, to 1.304 million tons.
