The output however fell by 10.5% in October

According to Ukrmetallurgprom, in January–October, Ukrainian steelmaking companies increased production of steel by 2% to 17.93 million tons, compared to the same period of the past year.

At the same time, production of rolled products dropped by 1% to 15.54 million tons, and iron ore — by 0.1% to 17.07 million tons, compared to January–October 2018.

In October, Ukrainian companies cut steel production by 10.5% to 1.56 million tons, rolled products — by 9% to 1.43 million tons, and pig iron — by 9.1% to 1.59 million tons, compared to September.

Over ten months, production of iron ore pellets increased by 0.2% to 17.77 million tons, and iron ore concentrate — by 5% to 52.57 million tons.

Production of sinter ore decreased by 0.3% to 26.21 million tons, coke — by 5% to 8.55 million tons, and pipe products — by 5% to 0.89 million tons.

In January–October, Ukrainian mining & metals companies increased iron ore exports by 8% to 33.25 million tons, compared to the same period of the past year.

To date, 13 out of 21 blast furnaces, 8 out of 9 open-hearth furnaces, 10 out of 16 BOFs, 5 out of 15 electric arc furnaces, and 14 out of 15 continuous casting machines are in operation.

As reported earlier, over the first six months of this year, Ukraine’s mining & metals sector ramped up production of steel by 5% to 10.9 million tons, rolled products — by 3.2% to 9.4 million tons, and pig iron — by 0.4% to 10.2 million tons, compared to January–June 2018.
