Kametstal resumed shipment of granulated blast furnace slag in March

In March 2023, Kametstal Iron and Steel Works resumed the shipment of granulated blast furnace slag to domestic and European consumers. This is stated in the press release on the company’s Facebook page.

“The secondary product of steel production is an additional profit for Kametstal. In March, the plant will once again supply blast furnace granulated slag to domestic and European consumers,” the report says.

This product of blast furnace production of the plant has been in demand among foreign consumers for many years. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, despite the difficult situation with logistics, the company has been working on establishing stable sales of slag. This year, the plant is shipping such a product for the first time.

In March 2023, it is planned to export almost 10.5 thousand tons or 150 wagons of granulated slag to European consumers, and 100 wagons to Ukrainian consumers.

Granslag is obtained as a result of rapid cooling of refractory blast furnace slag in a granbasine filled with water. Next, the product is sent to the warehouse, from where, with the help of special equipment, it is delivered under a crane overpass for loading into semi-trailers for further transportation.

This product is used, in particular, as an aggregate for cement and asphalt concrete, mineral wool, in hydraulic, agricultural, road construction, in the construction of industrial, public and residential buildings, etc.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in the fall of 2022, Kametstal sent the batch of granulated blast furnace slag to a customer from Poland in the amount of 19,000 tons.

Also, since the beginning of the year, Kametstal Iron and Steel Works has shipped 16,000 cubic meters of neon-helium mixture to the domestic market of Ukraine, while 6,500 cubic meters were sold in 2021. The plant also shipped the first batch of high-grade liquid argon to a third-party consumer in the amount of 19.5 tons.
