At the final stage, one of the key units of the unit was replaced

Kametstal Iron and Steel Works has completed the overhaul of converter №1. This is stated in the report of Metinvest.Media.

Given the production need in wartime, this year’s restoration of the unit was carried out in the format of a scattered overhaul.

According to Denys Yesskov, Head of the BOF Shop at Kametstal, the major activities carried out as part of the overhaul included replacing metal hoses on the oxygen supply machine, installing new thyristors, etc.

At the final stage, Metinvest-Promservice specialists replaced one of the key components of the unit – the bearing of the non-drive journal. This 5.4-tonne part ensures the rotation of the BOF vessel during the steelmaking process.

«Thus, we extended the equipment’s service life and contributed to the smooth and efficient operation of the converter shop,» Yeskov noted.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Kametstal is working to optimize its production processes and reduce energy consumption. In particular, in September, the plant’s rollers reduced steel consumption from 1026.9 to 1026.2 kg per ton of finished rolled products. In addition, by optimizing the scheme of steel feeding into the heating furnace when rolling wire rod with diameters of 5.5 and 6 mm, the company managed to reduce natural gas consumption by 53 thousand cubic meters.

Also, since the beginning of 2023, as part of the locomotive fleet modernization program, Kametstal has replaced diesel engines on three TGM-4 diesel locomotives. They received engines from the American companies Cummins and Caterpillar. Two more locomotives were put into operation after overhaul at diesel locomotive repair facilities in Ukraine
