UZ plans to accelerate the transfer of trains to Poland by the end of 2023

By the end of 2023, Ukrainian Railways (UZ) plans to complete the project of moving the border train inspection point on the border with Poland to the Mostyska II station. This was stated by the operations director and member of the board of the UZ Vyacheslav Yeromin, writes Rail.insider.

The implementation of this measure can reduce the time of inspection of freight trains and speed up the process of their transfer at the border.

«For our part, we planned to postpone the border inspection. Now it turns out that trains to the Mostyska II station stop a little to the side, where they are inspected. We have already designed works (fence, video cameras, towers, etc.). We plan to implement them by the end of the year and transfer this review to the Mostyska II station,» he noted.

The company has been dealing with this issue since 2022. According to calculations, reducing the time of inspection of freight trains on the route from 2 hours to 40 minutes for an empty train and 80 minutes for a loaded train will make it possible to increase the exchange by 1-2 trains per day.

Currently, the actual capacity of the Mostyska II station is six trains per day (three on the 1520 mm gauge, three on the 1435 mm gauge). At the same time, technological capabilities allow increasing these indicators to 10 trains per day (six – on a 1520 mm track and four – on a 1435 mm track).

As GMK Center reported earlier, in January-October 2023 UZ transported in an export package 12.1 million tons of cargo, which is 7.1% less y/y. Export transportation of iron ore decreased by 28% y/y in 10 months – to 14.88 million tons, and ferrous metals – by 27%, to 3.7 million tons.
