Ukrainian Railways puts up for sale 41 thousand tons of scrap for UAH 307 million

In mid-June 2025, Ukrainian Railways JSC (UZ) put up 40.84 thousand tons of ferrous scrap for electronic auction in the Prozorro.Sale system with a total starting price of UAH 307.1 million.

In total, 129 lots are offered for sale for the first time. The average price per ton of raw materials is UAH 7.56 thousand, while, depending on the lot, the price ranges from UAH 5.32 thousand to UAH 13.2 thousand. The types of scrap include 3 (axles of railway wheelsets, car parts), 4 (engine parts), 312 (springs), 9 (other scrap), 10 (shavings), 1 (car body parts), 316, etc.

The auctions are scheduled for June 30, 2025, and July 1 and 2.

The day before, UZ put up for sale 8.51 thousand tons of ferrous scrap with a total starting price of UAH 62.27 million. The auctions are scheduled for June 23, 2025.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Ukrainian Railways resumed trading in scrap on May 16 this year. Prior to that, the company had not sold raw materials since September 2023. In the first 9 months of that year, the railroad operator sold only 76.4 kt of scrap, while in 2022 it sold 113 kt against the target of 170 kt.

Since then, the railroad operator has twice held a series of auctions, trying to sell 12 thousand tons of raw materials for UAH 87.3 million. The first attempt was unsuccessful, and during the second auction, 7 out of 33 auctions were successfully held. Thus, UZ sold 1.66 thousand tons of scrap for UAH 12.96 million. The starting price increased by UAH 1.1 million.

Another auction was held on June 20 – 5.9 thousand tons for UAH 41.71 million – but the attempt was unsuccessful. The railroad operator sold only one lot with raw materials out of 15. Ukrbutbrukht LLC purchased 300 tons of scrap for UAH 2.58 million. The protocol is currently pending.

It should be noted that the Cabinet of Ministers recently simplified the procedure for disposing of property for Ukrainian Railways, according to which the company can independently, without government approval, decide on the alienation of property if its book value does not exceed UAH 500 million.

This decision is expected to allow UZ to receive over 218.6 thousand tons of ferrous scrap (worth UAH 1.6 billion) and 3.8 thousand tons of non-ferrous scrap (worth UAH 233.4 million).
