China bought more than a third of Ukrainian raw materials

In 2019, Ukraine’s exports of iron ore and iron ore concentrates increased by 18.5% to $3.398 billion against the previous year.

Iron ore exports grew by 8.1% in physical terms, up to 39.9 million tons,

according to Interfax-Ukraine with reference to the data published by the State Tax Service of Ukraine.

Ukrainian steelmakers sold more than a third of iron ore to China (34.4%) in 2019. Poland ranked second in terms of exports from Ukraine (12.7%), followed by the Czech Republic (10.3%).

In 2019, Ukraine imported 14.245 thousand tons of iron ore worth $1.412 million. Steelmakers bought the largest amount of iron ore from Russia (90.86%), followed by the Netherlands (5.95%) and the United Kingdom (2.34%).

Ukraine increased exports of iron ore by 10.9% to $2.9 billion at the end of 2018 against 2017. Imports of iron ore shrank by 71.8% to $8.3 million.

The key iron ore producers in Ukraine include: Sukha Balka GOK (Mining and Processing Plant), Zaporizhzhia Iron Ore Plant, Ingulets GOK, Kryvyi Rih Iron Ore Plant, Poltava Mining, Northern GOK, Ukrmekhanobr Scientific and Production Company, Central GOK, Southern GOK, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol.
