Production of steel and pig iron also went up

In January–November 2021, Ukrainian steelmakers cut production of rolled products by 5% to 17.5 million tons y-o-y,

according to the updated statistics of Ukrmetallurgprom.

In 11M Ukrainian manufacturers produced:

  • 27.9 million tons of sinter ore (4.7% up from 11M 2020);
  • 8.73 million tons of coke (-1%);
  • 19.6 million tons of steel (+4.9%);
  • 19.4 million tons of pig iron (+4.5%);
  • 910 thousand tons of pipes and tubes (+15.7%).

Production of rolled products in November alone increased by 1.1% to 1.56 million tons y-o-y.

In November 2021, Ukrainian companies produced:

  • 2.47 million tons of sinter ore (8.9% down against November 2020);
  • 728 thousand tons of coke (-10.2%);
  • 1.71 million tons of pig iron (-0.2%);
  • 1.72 million tons of steel (-0.8%);
  • 90 thousand tons of pipes and tubes (+12.5%).

As on 14 December 2021, the main production facilities in operation included: 15 out of 21 blast furnaces, 7 out of 8 open-hearth furnaces, 10 out of 16 BOFs, 5 out of 15 electric-arc furnaces, and 14 out of 17 continuous casting machines.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2020, companies of Ukraine’s mining & metals sector decreased steel production by 1.1% to 20.62 million tons, while production of pig iron increased by 1.8% to 20.42 million tons, and rolled products by 1.2% to 18.43 million tons against 2019.
