Ukraine imported 65.3 thousand tons of flat rolled steel in January

In January 2026, 65.28 thousand tons of flat rolled steel were supplied to the Ukrainian market, which is 26.7% more than in the same month of 2025. Compared to the previous month, volumes fell by 11%. This is evidenced by GMK Center calculations based on data from the State Customs Service.

Approximately 50% of imports are coated flat products (HS 7210) – 31.68 thousand tons, which is 4.9% more y-o-y and 0.5% m-o-m. The main suppliers of products during the period were Turkey – 16.99 thousand tons, Poland – 2.23 thousand tons, and Slovakia – 3.34 thousand tons.

Another 29.1% of supplies, or 18.97 thousand tons (-48.1% y/y; -29.9% m/m), accounted for flat hot-rolled products (HS 7208). The main source of these products is Turkey – 14.49 thousand tons. Another 2.79 thousand tons were imported from China and 8.49 thousand tons from Italy.

In January, 7.69 thousand tons of flat cold-rolled products (HS 7209) were imported, which is 47.9% less year-on-year, but 52.3% more month-on-month. 7.23 thousand tons of products were imported from Turkey.

The cost of flat rolled steel imports fell by 21.9% y-o-y and 12.1% m-o-m to $66.85 million at the end of the month.

It should be noted that in 2025, 1.09 million tons of flat rolled products were supplied to the Ukrainian market, which is 10.7% more than in 2024. Approximately 50% of imports were coated flat products – 532.8 thousand tons, which is 13.7% more y/y. Another 31.6% of supplies, or 344.28 thousand tons (+0.9% y/y), were hot-rolled flat products.

The cost of flat steel imports increased by 4.9% y/y – to $1.13 billion in 2025.
