Tenaris has commissioned two 5 MW solar power stations in Italy

Tenaris, a manufacturer of seamless steel pipes, has commissioned two new solar power stations at its plants in Sabbio Bergamasco and Arcore in northern Italy. Both facilities were connected to the national grid in June. The total investment in this project amounted to around €10 million, according to Bergamonews.

Each of the new plants has a capacity of around 5 MW (total peak capacity: 10 MW). It is expected that all the energy generated in Sabbio Bergamasco will be consumed entirely by the neighbouring Dalmine plant. At the Arcore site, the level of self-consumption will be 70–75 per cent.

A key feature of the project is the efficient and environmentally friendly use of space without the need for new land: in Sabbio, the plant was built on the site of an existing storage area, whilst in Arcore the panels were installed directly on the roofs of the factory buildings. The company plans to scale up this approach at its other sites.

This initiative forms part of Tenaris’s global commitment to reduce specific CO₂ emissions by 30 per cent by 2030 compared with 2018 levels. Over the next three years, the company plans to further increase solar generation capacity at its Italian sites.

The new capacity in Italy will complement Tenaris’s renewable energy portfolio, which already includes a solar power station at the Silcotub plant in Romania, two wind farms in Argentina and a photovoltaic power station in China.

As reported by GMK Center, the Nigerian steel company African Industries Group has been granted 500 hectares of land in Niger State (Nigeria) for the construction of a new facility. This plant is expected to become the country’s largest steelworks powered by solar energy.
