Ukraine exported 50.2 thousand tons of long products in March

In March 2024, Ukrainian steel enterprises increased exports of long steel products by 13.4% compared to the same month in 2023, to 50.2 thousand tons. Revenue from exports of the relevant products fell by 4% y/y – to $39.15 million. This is evidenced by the data of the State Customs Service.

In March, exports of long products decreased by 2% compared to February, while revenues fell by 4%.

In January-March 2024, Ukrainian steelmakers exported 147.4 thousand tons of long products, up 50.7% year-on-year. Export revenue for the period amounted to $114.3 million (+27.5% y/y).

Hot rolled bars and coils in coils (HS 7213) were exported the most in 3 months – 67.4 thousand tons for $41.22 million. In February, the company exported 26.95 thousand tons (+1.8% m/m) for $16.55 million (+2% m/m). The company also exported 38.23 thousand tons of carbon steel wire (HS 7217) for $33.15 million, and 11.7 thousand tons (-7.7% m/m) for $10.2 million (-6.5% m/m) for the month.

Other rods and bars, untreated, twisted (HS 7214) were the top three exporters of long products from Ukraine in January-March, with 17.1 thousand tons worth $10.33 million. In March, exports of such products increased by 175.3% m/m – to 7.52 thousand tons, while revenue increased by 158.1% m/m – to $4.52 million.

Romania and Poland were the largest consumers of Ukrainian hot-rolled bars and rods in the month, accounting for 45.2% and 39.9%, respectively, in monetary terms. Poland (36.8%) and Germany (18.6%) consumed about 55% of Ukrainian wire. Poland (52%) was the main buyer of other rods and bars, untreated and twisted.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, Ukrainian steelmakers reduced exports of long products by 31.4% year-on-year – to 523.84 thousand tons. Steelmakers’ revenue from exports of such products fell by 45% y/y – to $395.15 million. Hot rolled bars and coils in coils (HS 7213) were exported the most over the year, 209.97 thousand tons for $131.42 million.
