Ukraine exported 43.2 thousand tons of long products in January

In January 2024, Ukrainian steel enterprises increased exports of long steel products by 82.1% compared to the same month in 2023, to 43.2 thousand tons. Revenue from exports of the relevant products increased by 57.7% y/y – to $35.23 million. This is evidenced by the data of the State Customs Service.

In January 2024, exports of long products decreased by 15.5% compared to December 2023, while revenues decreased by 3.6%.

Hot-rolled bars and coils in coils (HS 7213) were exported the most during the month, amounting to 13.99 thousand tons (+31.5% y/y, -36.3% y/y) for $8.45 million (+26.1% y/y, -34.4% y/y). The company also exported 13.83 thousand tons (+59.2% y/y, +5.4% m/m) of carbon steel wire (HS 7217) for $12.1 million (+35% y/y, +7.2% m/m).

Other rods and bars of carbon steel, not further processed, twisted (HS 7214) were among the top three long products in terms of exports from Ukraine in January, with 6.83 thousand tons (+272% y/y, -35.1% m/m) worth $4.06 million (+212.1% y/y, -34.2% m/m).

Romania and Poland were the largest consumers of Ukrainian hot-rolled bars and strips in the month, accounting for 49.8% and 42.7%, respectively, in monetary terms. Poland (36.7%) and Germany (18.8%) consumed about 60% of Ukrainian wire. Poland (58.4%) and Moldova (33.9%) were the main buyers of other bars and rods.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, Ukrainian steelmakers reduced exports of long products by 31.4% year-on-year – to 523.84 thousand tons. Steelmakers’ revenue from exports of such products fell by 45% y/y – to $395.15 million. Hot rolled bars and coils in coils (HS 7213) were exported the most over the year, 209.97 thousand tons for $131.42 million.
