Turkiye imported 330 thousand tons of iron ore from Ukraine in January-June

According to the results of January-June 2023, metallurgical enterprises of Turkiye reduced the import of iron ore from Ukraine by 6.8% compared to the same period in 2022 – to 330.24 thousand tons. This is evidenced by the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), reports Steelorbis.

In June of this year, Turkish metallurgists reduced the consumption of Ukrainian raw materials by 38.9% compared to the same month in 2022 – to 72.76 thousand tons.

In general, Turkiye imported 3.59 million tons of iron ore in half a year, which is 34.6% less y/y. The value of imports for the period decreased by 43.1% y/y to $463.02 million, as iron ore prices fell year-to-date compared to year-over-year levels in 2022.

The main supplier of military equipment to Turkiye is Brazil – 68% of the total volume of imports. In 6 months, Brazilian companies shipped 2.45 million tons of ore to Turkish consumers, which is 6.6% more y/y. In second place is Sweden (18%) – 654.78 million tons (-20.6% y/y), and in third place – Ukraine (9%).

We will remind, for results of January-June In 2023, Ukrainian mining companies exported 8.32 million tons of iron ore, which is 51.1% less than in the first half of 2022. Slovakia consumed the most Ukrainian ore – 29.94%, the Czech Republic – 24.7% and Poland – 19.6%.

As reported by GMK Center, metallurgical enterprises of Turkiye according to the results of January-June 2023 reduced steel production by 16.3% compared to the same period in 2022 м up to 15.92 million tons.
