The Verkhovna Rada ratified amendments to the Agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Moldova on the activities of railway transport, according to which the transfer of freight cars between countries is simplified. This is stated in press release Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine.
The adopted changes will allow for transit transportation on the section Etuliya (Moldova) – Reni (Ukraine) – Giurgiulesti (Moldova), without a three-day stop in Reni.
This applies to the rolling stock of all forms of ownership and cargo coming from the stations of Moldova and Ukraine or in transit through their territories in the direction of the Moldovan city of Giurgiulesti and the Romanian Galati-Larga.
“These changes make it possible to significantly speed up and increase rail freight between Ukraine and Moldova, as well as significantly increase the export potential of the ports of the Danube cluster. At the same time, we are focusing our efforts on the restoration and development of the infrastructure of the seaports of Izmail and Reni in order to expand the range of cargo,” said Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development Alexander Kubrakov.
The adopted changes will also increase the capacity of the Frikacei-Etulia and Reni-Giurgiulesti checkpoints.
As GMK Center reported earlier, «Ukrainian Railways (UZ) will provide the service transportation of goods by transit on the territory of Moldova in all connections. The relevant contract was concluded by the Transport Logistics Center (TLC) branch of UZ and the Moldovan railway operator Calea Ferată din Moldova (CFM). This step will make it possible to strengthen the company’s export capabilities and increase the volume of transportation of strategically important export cargoes.
Also, the EU and the EBRD will allocate €43 million for the modernization of the railway in Moldova – the funds are invested in the restoration of a key transit route on the roads of solidarity for Ukraine.
