The average wage in the mining & metals sector in the first quarter increased by 24%

The average wage in the steelmaking and finished steel products industry grew by 23.9% in the first quarter, up to UAH 12,450. The average wage in the industrial sector grew by 25.8% in general, up to UAH 10,880. This was reported by the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

The wage fund in the steelmaking and finished steel products industry in the first quarter amounted to UAH 7.32 billion, including:

  • basic wage fund — 56.5%;
  • additional wage fund — 37.3%;
  • other incentives and compensations — 6.2%.

In the industrial sector in general, this ratio was 60.3%, 33.9%, and 5.8% respectively.

The average wage per hour in the steel industry was UAH 87 in the first quarter (+ 25.3% compared to the first quarter of 2018), and UAH 76 in the industrial sector in general (+ 26.9%).

The average wage in the mining & metals sector in the first quarter by gender was: UAH 13,450 for men and UAH 10,100 for women. In the industrial sector in general, this ratio was UAH 12,000 and UAH 9,000 respectively. On average, women earn 25% less than men.

As reported earlier, AMKR raised wages by 15–20% on 1 May, while Metinvest’s wages grew by 15% in April.
