Metinvest will make a trident for the Motherland Monument in Kyiv

Metinvest Group will produce steel for the Ukrainian trident free of charge, which will replace the Soviet coat of arms on the Motherland monument in Kyiv and become a financial partner of the monument reconstruction project. It is stated in a post on the company’s website.

The Ukrainian trident on the shield will be a three-dimensional construction identical to the old coat of arms. The project is developed by the Ukrainian Institute of Steel Structures named after Shimanovsky, the sculptor is the Ukrainian artist Oleksiy Pergamenschik.

The trident will be made from two types of steel: Metinvest stainless steel 1.7 mm thick and foreign-made steel 1.5 mm thick. The company attracted specialists from several Ukrainian enterprises to its creation. The hire for the updated symbol was performed by employees of the group’s joint venture, the Zaporizhstal Iron and Steel Works. The company restored the steel grade from which the memo was made.

The installation of the composition will begin in July, it will last until August 24, 2023. The monument is made of steel from Zaporizhstal, Azovstal and Ilyich Iron and Steel Works, which are part of Metinvest.

According to the CEO of the Metinvest group Yuriy Ryzhenkov, the company is one of the partners of a large-scale project for the decommunization of the Motherland monument.

“We believe that one of the most important symbols of the invincibility of the Ukrainian people should be adorned with a trident made of high-quality Ukrainian steel. It is a symbol of Ukrainian identity that we are proud of. Especially for this project, we restored the steel grade from which the entire monument was created in 1981. And it is made of Zaporizhstal steel. We continue to support Ukrainians in the most difficult times for all – to help the army, civilians and be the backbone of the country’s economy,» he said.

Among the well-known steel objects of the company are the Darnytsky Bridge in Kyiv, a new safe shelter over the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the Olympic NSC in the capital, the London skyscraper The Shard, St. George’s Bridge in Genoa and hundreds of implemented projects.

The project for the reconstruction of the monument is being implemented by the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture. Apart from Metinvest, the partners and financial donors are Monobank, KAN Development, Novaya Pochta, PrivatBank, ATB, Oschadbank. Funds for the reconstruction are collected by the Cultural Sustainability Agency (ACURE), which cooperates with the Heritage Rescue Headquarters.

In 2023, Kyiv plans to build a bridge from the steel of the Mariupol steel plant Azovstal, which will connect Obolonsky Island and the Natalka park. Almost 300 tons of steel for the construction of the crossing was made at the enterprise on the eve of the war.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in March 2023, in the Ukrainian capital 8 new trams produced by the Tatra-Yug company from the steel of the Mariupol steel plant Azovstal began to run in Kyiv. Rolled steel for the construction of transport in the amount of 115 tons was delivered to the customer from the Mariupol Iron and Steel Works even before the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.
