Metinvest will allocate UAH 50 million to the reconstruction of a historic building in Zaporizhzhia

Metinvest Group will direct UAH 50 million to the implementation of the reconstruction project of an apartment building in Zaporizhzhia at 151 Soborny Avenue, which was damaged by a missile attack by Russian troops on October 6, 2022. This is stated in the press release on Zaporizhstal Iron and Steel Works’ website.

«On the instructions of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, with the assistance of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration and the Zaporizhia City Council, in partnership with the Metinvest Group and the Zaporizhstal Combine, a project was launched to rebuild a house that was damaged by enemy shelling,» the message says.

Restoration of the damaged building will begin on May 29, 2023. Currently, the construction site is being organized.

As part of the reconstruction, it is planned to arrange a part of new foundations, restore reliable supporting structures, ceilings, engineering networks and the roof. Particular attention will be paid to the restoration of all architectural elements of the facade while preserving the original historical appearance. The final stage of the project will be the landscaping of the surrounding area.

«Metinvest believes in the victory of Ukraine and joins the reconstruction of the country already now. We are joining an important project to restore a landmark building and an outstanding architectural monument for Zaporizhzhia residents – a residential building on Soborny Avenue, which was mutilated as a result of a massive rocket attack on Zaporizhzhia. Now this building represents a sharp reminder of the destructive power of war, but the synergy of the efforts of the authorities and responsible business will prove that unity and creativity have greater power,» said the operational director of the Metinvest Group Oleksandr Myronenko.

On October 6, 2022, Russian troops launched a missile attack on the center of Zaporizhzhia. As a result of enemy shelling, an apartment building at 151 Soborny Avenue was destroyed: two entrances, in which 24 apartments were located, were destroyed.

The building on Soborny Avenue was built by order of Zaporizhstal plant and put into operation in 1955. It is a monument of architecture and urban planning of local importance, together with other buildings, it defines one of the main squares of Zaporizhzhia, which remains the center of cultural and public life – Mayakovsky Square.

As GMK Center reported earlier, during the year of the war Metinvest Group directed over UAH 3.1 billion to help the country, more than UAH 1.6 billion of which are for the needs of the army through Rinat Akhmetov’s «Steel Front» military initiative. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the company has become one of the largest private donors to the Ukrainian military.
