Metinvest's aid

The company produced or purchased every tenth body armor in the army

Since February 24, 2022, Metinvest Group has allocated more than UAH 3.1 billion to help the country, more than UAH 1.6 billion of which is for the needs of the army within the framework of Rinat Akhmetov’s Steel Front military initiative. It is stated in the company’s press release.

According to Yuriy Ryzhenkov, CEO of Metinvest Group, 2022 has become a serious challenge for the company and Ukraine.

“We have proven more than once that steelmakers and miners can be relied on in difficult times, that Metinvest can be a pillar of Ukraine. And now we continue to work where possible, fill the budgets of the country and regions, pay taxes, provide people with work. Within Rinat Akhmetov’s Steel Front, we support the Ukrainian army. During the year of the war, we handed over to the army an unprecedented number of drones and body armors for a domestic private business. Metinvest Group also launched the humanitarian project «Saving Lives»,” he noted.

He also emphasized that the company is ready to continue to provide strong support, and after the victory, to restore the country.

From the first day of the war, Metinvest joined Rinat Akhmetov’s Steel Front military initiative. In February 2023, the project «Heart of Azovstal» was launched within Steel Front’s borders, which provides support for the defenders of Mariupol and family members of the killed, captured and missing defenders of the plant. Rinat Akhmetov allocated UAH 1 billion for this.

During the year of the war, Metinvest became one of the largest private donors of the Ukrainian army. The defenders of the country received 25,000 helmets and more than 150,000 body armors from the company. Every tenth body armor in the army was produced or purchased by the company.

The group established the production of certain products for the defense of Ukraine – this is special steel for body armors, mobile shelters for strengthening trenches, armored shields for operators of large-caliber weapons, anti-tank hedgehogs, spiked chains, minibastions, demining cats for remote demining of territories, etc.

In particular, Metinvest transferred to the front:

  • 123 mobile shelters;
  • about 5 thousand field stoves for military and civilians;
  • 273 generators and multi-charging stations;
  • 1.2 thousand drones;
  • almost 1.7 thousand thermal imagers;
  • 321 cars and ambulances;
  • over 31,000 tourniquets and first-aid kits, other medical equipment.

The group, in cooperation with the PULSE charitable foundation, promotes the development of tactical medicine in Ukraine. Almost UAH 6.2 million was allocated to the organization of training of military personnel in the combat zone.

The company, in coordination with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, launched the «Saving Lives» initiative. The project has already helped almost 425,000 people and covers about 70 territorial communities. Almost 200 donor companies from around the world joined the initiative, the total amount of help from partners reached more than €2.4 million.

Other directions are also being developed within the initiative. In particular, together with the Prosthetics Support Project in Ukraine, they are returning military and civilians who suffered during the war to a full life. Currently, 33 people are already undergoing prosthetics and treatment at various stages.

The charitable initiative of Metinvest and the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation also supports Ukrainian medical institutions. Hospitals received medicines, equipment and consumables worth more than €240,000. Medical goods are also delivered to hospitals in Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih, Kamianske, Pokrovsk, and Avdiivka under a separate program implemented by the company and the foundation. The total amount of assistance to doctors within the framework of two projects is more than UAH 175 million.

More than 6,000 places in temporary shelters have been organized for displaced employees. Their families provide food, hygiene products and basic necessities. In addition, since February 2022, the company has employed more than 6,200 people, 1,600 of them from Mariupol and Avdiivka. The company provides material support to such employees – compensations, social benefits, humanitarian aid and guaranteed earnings.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Metinvest in 2022 transferred UAH 20.5 billion in taxes and fees to the budgets of all levels in Ukraine. In addition, the company plans to gradually increase power of Minings to at least 30% of the pre-war level and focus mainly on the production of iron ore pellets.
