Lime deliveries by rail in the first half of 2023 decreased by 19% y/y

In January-June 2023, the lime industry of Ukraine reduced deliveries of lime by rail by 19% compared to the same period in 2022 – to 66 thousand tons. Ukrainian Association of the Lime Industry (UALI) informs about it.

In June 2023, deliveries of lime by rail decreased by 9% compared to June 2022, but increased by 38% compared to May.

«The main consumers of lime by railway, as well as in the market as a whole, remain enterprises of the steel complex. A small share is owned by enterprises of the chemical industry, the energy sector, and the construction industry,» the UALI notes.

At the same time, in January-June 2023, due to a full-scale war, the decline in supplies for all sectors of consumption continues, the association adds.

The main supplier of lime by rail in January-June 2023 is Ukrspetsizvest, which share reaches 52%, and deliveries in quantitative terms increased by 5% y/y. The company Galvapno increased the shipment of products by 45% in half a year. Other suppliers include PBG Kovalska and DZBM.

In the first half of 2023, the main consumers of lime by rail are the steel plant Zaporizhstal (+49% y/y), the Eastern Mining and Processing Plant (+10 times), and ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih (-59% y/y).

As GMK Center reported earlier, supply of lime by rail, in 2022, decreased by 56% compared to 2021 – to 123 thousand tons. The main consumers of lime by rail, as well as in the market as a whole, were enterprises of the steel complex and the chemical industry. The key reason for the decline is Russia’s aggression and full-scale war.
