In 7 months, these indicators decreased by 11% in annual terms

In January-July 2023, the lime industry of Ukraine reduced the supply of lime by railway by 11% compared to the same period in 2022 – to 79.5 thousand tons. Ukrainian Association of the Lime Industry (UALI) informs about it.

In July 2023, the supply of lime by rail increased by 15% m/m and by 61% compared to July 2022.

The main consumers of lime by rail, as well as in the market in general, remain iron and steel enterprises. In January-July, Zaporizhstal Iron and Steel Works increased its supply of lime by rail by 61% compared to the same period last year, while Kametstal decreased it by 76% y/y. During this period, Eastern Mining increased its supply from 2,000 to 12,900 tons. Other consumers supplied lime in small quantities.

The main supplier of lime by rail in January-July 2023 is Ukrspecyzvest, whose share increased to 49% y/y, and supplies in quantitative terms increased by 4.1 thousand tons.

As GMK Center reported earlier, the supply of lime by railway for 2022 decreased by 56% compared to 2021 – to 123,000 tons. The main consumers, as in the market as a whole, were enterprises of the steel complex and the chemical industry. In general, the lime market of Ukraine in 2022 fell by 58% compared to 2021. The key reason for the decline is Russia’s aggression and full-scale war. Last year, lime production decreased by 61% y/y, the consumption of the product also decreased significantly, in particular, imports fell by 70% y/y.
