Kametstal reduces costs by repairing equipment in-house

Kametstal continues to systematically develop new repair products that help reduce the cost of equipment restoration. The specialists of the Metallurgical Equipment Repair Shop (MES) have already started implementing the program for 2025, successfully fulfilling orders from the plant’s metallurgical divisions, according to a press release.

One of the key achievements was the introduction of mobile equipment restoration technologies. For the first time, the plant began overhauling hopper cars for the transportation of hot sinter directly at the plant. This allowed us to reduce the cost of such repairs by 25% compared to outsourced services. In 2024, five railcars were repaired, and two more are currently in the works. It is planned to repair six hoppers in 2025.

In addition, the specialists of the Central Railway Maintenance Department handed over two self-propelled slag carriage bogies to the BOF Shop. The slag carrier system restoration function was assigned to the shop in 2024. Eight units of equipment were put back into operation, and this number is expected to increase to ten in 2025.

Another achievement was the restoration of 230 sintering trolleys of sinter machines by straightening. This significantly reduced costs, as previously similar work was performed at another enterprise. Kametstal continues to improve its repair processes, optimizing costs and increasing production efficiency.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2025, Kametstal plans to invest UAH 2.5 billion in the modernization of its production facilities, a record amount of money in recent years. Key projects include the overhaul of blast furnace No. 9 and the construction of a solar power plant.
