In November 2022, the first batch of grinding balls with a diameter of 25 mm, necessary for the stable operation of iron and steel industry, was produced at the rolling mills of the Kametstal Iron and Steel Works. It is stated on the company’s Facebook page.
Such balls of small diameter are used in layer mills for high-quality grinding of iron ore.
Specialists of the company’s services and divisions worked on the development of a new type of product. Works on calibration and preparation of rolling rolls were carried out. Specialists worked out technical and technological recommendations, in particular, the optimal mode of heating the workpiece in the furnaces of the mill. Special attention was paid to the hardening technology of the new rolled steel.
The first 138 tons of layers of the 25th diameter, certified according to the fifth hardness group, were shipped to the Central Mining and Processing Plant of the Metinvest group.
“This year, in connection with a special need, we successfully set up two types of grinding balls – these are balls with a large diameter of 80 mm, orders for which were transferred to Kametstal from the Azovstal plant. Currently, the smallest diameter for us is 25 mm,” said Oleksandr Oliynyk, head of the company’s rolling shop.
According to him, the production of products that are primarily needed by Ukrainian consumers is the basis for the productive work of the company’s enterprises and the national economy as a whole.
As GMK Center reported earlier, despite the war, steel enterprises of the Metinvest Group, Zaporizhstal and Kametstal, are expanding their product line. Since the beginning of the year, Kametstal has set up the production of ten new types of rolled products. Among them are circles with a diameter of 32, 34, 36 and 38 mm, needed in mechanical engineering, as well as the MP-4 shaped profile, which was previously produced at Azovstal. In addition, the enterprise resumed the production of railcar axles and liquid argon.
Also, Kametstal Iron and Steel Works temporarily suspended production due to damage to the energy infrastructure of Ukraine as a result of massive shelling by Russian troops on November 21, 2022.
