Kametstal cast the cone and the the backfilling bowl ring of the BF’s device

Kametstal Iron and Steel Works for the first time cast the cone and ring of the backfill apparatus’ bowl of the BF weighing 18 tons and 9 tons, respectively. This is stated in the company’s press release on the Facebook page.

“Cooperation with Metinvest enterprises is carried out for the sake of a common future. In difficult times, teamwork with new ideas in production is more valuable than ever. Specialists of the Kametstal’s foundry department of repair and mechanical shop conducted an experiment on the basis of the converter shop,” the message says.

Such large-sized parts were produced by the plant’s specialists for the first time and they had a satisfactory result. Before casting, a number of technological preparatory operations were performed, which involved 12 molders and four cutters.

The filling unit is designed for loading charge materials directly into the furnace and ensures the necessary distribution of charge materials in the furnace. This steel structure operates under conditions of sharp thermal fluctuations and shock loads, and therefore, after casting, it must be given the appropriate technical characteristics to ensure wear resistance.

The elements of the backfill apparatus, cast in the converter shop, will be sent to the Zaporizhzhia Foundry and Mechanical Plant (ZFMP) for further processing and assembly of the backfill apparatus. After that, the structure will be returned to Kametstal and will be installed on the blast furnace of the enterprise.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Kametstal Iron and steel Works has begun major repairs of the workshop’s converter №2. Currently, the dismantling of the old equipment is in progress. Later, specialists will replace the main bearing of the converter. Also, during the works, relining of the converter will be performed.

Before, the plant has installed a frequency converter of the gas blowing machine in the workshop for capturing chemical products of coking. The new device will make it possible to significantly save electricity during the transportation of coke gas to the consumer shops of the enterprise.
