JSW Steel invests $110 million to modernize its US plant

JSW Steel USA, a subsidiary of India’s JSW Steel, plans to invest $110 million to modernize its steel plant in Baytown, Texas, using sustainable technologies and state-of-the-art equipment. This is stated in the company’s press release.

According to the report, this investment will produce high-quality steel plate for monopiles in support of the US administration’s new efforts to expand offshore wind power by deploying 30 GW of offshore wind farms by 2030.

The steel products produced through these investments meet the requirements of the Buy America program for niche steel grades and complex applications, JSW Steel noted.

«The new modernization at our plate mill supports JSW USA’s long-term ESG initiative and contributes to the decarbonization of the energy spectrum in the United States. This investment has the potential to significantly reduce the United States’ dependence on imports in the infrastructure and renewable energy sectors,» said Parth Jindal, Director, JSW Steel USA.

With this investment, JSW USA will expand its portfolio of Made in the USA products by insourcing slab production at its facilities in Ohio.

In the spring 2024, JSW Vijayanagar Metallics, a subsidiary of JSW Steel, commissioned a 5 million tonne per annum hot strip mill (HSM) at its integrated steel plant in Vijayanagar, Karnataka, India.
