Izmail MTP transshipped 560,000 tons of pellets by mid-May

As of mid-May 2023, the state enterprise Izmail Sea Trade Port increased its pellet handling by 83% compared to the same period in 2022 – up to 560,000 tons. This was announced by the head of IZM MTP Andriy Yerokhin in an interview with Yug.Today.

«At the same time, we are ahead of schedule in terms of transshipment volume of sinter ore. But a significant amount of iron ore concentrate goes by rail directly to the Galatsi steel plant – the Izmail direction simply cannot cope with such a quantity of this raw material. At the same time, the port of Izmail today processes a lot of export and import steel. We mainly transship the products of Ukrainian steel plants, which continue their work,» comments the head of the IZM MTP.

According to him, the state stevedore is increasing the monthly dynamics of iron ore transshipment. This cargo goes to the Romanian port of Constanţa, after which it is delivered to the final consumers in India and China.

«But if we compare the volumes of iron ore with the indicators of 2022, transshipment has fallen slightly. The fact is that after Russian shelling, which was particularly active in November 2022, we were idle until March-April,» Yerokhin said.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in March 2023, Izmail Sea Trade Port handled 721.5 thousand tons of cargo, which is a record indicator for the entire history of the enterprise. 506,900 tons of goods were shipped for export, 209,000 tons of imports were accepted.

IZM MTP operates berths №4-8, 12-14, 16-26 of the Izmail Sea Port.

In general, for the 2022, Izmail port increased cargo transshipment by 2 times compared to 2021 – up to 8.89 million tons.
