ArcelorMittal was hit by a Russian missile attack

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, the largest mining and metal enterprise in Ukraine, was hit by Russian missile attack, thr press service informed about it.

The strike on the territory of the enterprise was carried out on the night of December 5, 2022. According to preliminary information, there are victims.

“The emergency plan was activated, the fire department, the department of labor protection and the medical service were called to the place. Rescuers are still on the scene. All necessary assistance is provided to the victims. At this early stage, all of our efforts are focused on bringing the situation under control,” the statement said.

On November 24, due to the massive rocket attack on infrastructure facilities in Ukraine, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih critically limited consumption of electricity and suspended most of the production processes – temporarily stopped steelmaking and the production of rolled products until the energy supply in the country stabilizes. The available electricity volumes were not enough to maintain production even at the level of 20% of capacity.

In September 2022, ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih was on the edge of a shutdown due to the blockade of Ukrainian ports and low steel prices. This was stated by the plant’s CEO Mauro Longobardo in an interview with the Financial Times.

As a result of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, Ukrainian industry has come under a serious blow. In particular, the steel giants Ilyich Iron and Steel Works and Azovstal were destroyed. In October 2022, 16 enterprises of the Metinvest Group, in particular, these plants, filed lawsuits to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) against Russia for damage caused by the Russian Federation to the property of the group in Mariupol and other territories of Ukraine since February 24.

As GMK Center reported earlier, massive missile strikes on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine and, as a result, a general deficit in the energy system continue to affect the work of the Ukrainian iron and steel industry – enterprises temporarily stop production or work within the limits of available quotas.
