ArcelorMittal replaced the caisson of converter №2

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih performed work on replacing the caisson of converter №2 in the converter workshop. This is stated in the press release of newspaper Metalurg.

“Employees of the converter workshop, taking advantage of incomplete capacity loading and forced downtime of a number of units, perform equipment restoration work. At the beginning of October, the caisson on the second converter was replaced,” the report says.

The unit is used for removal and primary cooling of converter gases, which are then sent to the gas purifiers through a shielded gas pipe. The weight of the caisson reaches 30 tons, the diameter is 4 m, and the length is 11 m.

The replacement of the caisson is the first significant step towards the restoration of converter №2, which is currently in reserve. The previous unit, which had served its term, was removed with the help of electric bridge cranes, and a working one, repaired by the workers of the steel construction workshop, was installed in its place.

“Unfortunately, the workshop is not working at full capacity now. This allowed us to use two cranes at once instead of one as in the pre-war period. Therefore, the replacement was carried out faster. We will continue the work on the restoration of the equipment, hoping for the Victory and that all our converters will work,” said Serhii Petrenko, energy engineer of the converter workshop.

As GMK Center reported earlier, previously ArcelorMittal put into operation a new welding robot-manipulator in the steel construction shop of the Foundry and Mechanical Plant. Now the robot performs welding in difficult-to-access places.

Before, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih carried out scheduled repairs of the 140-ton excavator №55 in quarry №3 of the mining department. In total, 11 excavators of various models with bucket volumes from 5.5 to 12.5 cubic meters are operated in quarry №3.
