This reduces production costs and the cost of the workpiece

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih’s steelmakers set a record by completing 60 melts in one batch at continuous casting machine (CCM) No. 2. This figure was made possible by improved technological processes and teamwork, reports Metallurg newspaper.

The achievement demonstrates not only the high level of professionalism of employees but also has important economic implications.

“Records are nice, but they only matter when they reduce costs and production. The higher the batch rate, the more products we produce at a lower cost,” said Olexander Lukyanov, Deputy Head of the Continuous Casting Shop.

Improvements in the design of ladles and optimization of equipment operation have helped to avoid problems with overheating of the body, which previously limited the duration of batches. The number of stoppages due to loss of streams was also reduced, which was made possible by the stable operation of the pulling and straightening machines and the canting coolers.

“After the record batches, the equipment needs more time to recover, but it is a reasonable cost. We are now working on consolidating these results and determining the optimal limits of batch production,” said Kirill Chmirkov, Head of the Process Support Bureau.

This record was also made possible by the coordinated interaction between production, repair and technical departments. Yevgeniy Naydenko, shift foreman, emphasized that the professionalism of the employees plays a key role

“Our people have learned to make the best decisions quickly, even in critical situations,” he added.

The new record confirms the high level of training of ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih and its ability to achieve its goals even in difficult conditions.

As GMK Center repored earlier, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih recently announced the production of 16 million tons of billets since the launch of a continuous casting machine complex. October 24, 2024 marked the 13th anniversary of the launch of the first CCM machine in the company’s converter shop.

In the near future, the company plans to overhaul CCM No. 1. In particular, the company is implementing a technology that will allow it to produce 160×160 mm billets along with 150×150 mm billets.
