Anglo American’s ore production fell by 2.4% y/y in 1H2026

British mining giant Anglo American has published its production results for the second quarter and the first half of 2026. In the first six months, total iron ore production amounted to 30.6 million tonnes, which is 2.4% lower than last year’s figure. This was reported by SteelOrbis.

In the second quarter, the company produced 15.4 million tonnes of iron ore. This is 3.4% less than in the same period last year, but 1.2% more than in the first quarter of this year.

In the first half of the year, iron ore sales rose by 1.9% year-on-year to 31.6 million tonnes. Sales volumes in the second quarter increased by 1.8% compared with the same period last year, reaching 16.7 million tonnes.

In the first six months of the year, production at the Kumba mine (South Africa) fell by 3% – to 17.7 million tonnes. Total sales from this operation in the second quarter fell by 3.6% year-on-year – to 9.4 million tonnes. In the second quarter, ore production at Kumba fell by 4.4% year-on-year to 8.8 million tonnes. The main reason was a decline in production at the Kolomela mine due to scheduled technical work at the concentrator, which was carried out in coordination with maintenance work on the railway. Production at the Sishen deposit in the second quarter totalled 6.45 million tonnes, whilst at Kolomela it stood at 2.4 million tonnes.

Iron ore production at the Minas-Rio deposit in Brazil in the second quarter totalled 6.54 million tonnes, which is 1.9% less than in the same period last year.

Anglo American has confirmed its annual iron ore production forecast for 2026, which remains at 55–59 million tonnes.

As reported by GMK Center, Anglo American plc reduced its production of premium iron ore by 2% y/y in Q1 2026, to 15.2 million tonnes.
