Zaporizhkoks has upgraded the equipment of coke oven battery No. 5-6

Zaporizhkoks PrJSC has overhauled coke ejector No. 3 at coke oven battery (COB) No. 5-6. More than UAH 5 million was allocated to upgrade the equipment. This is stated in the company’s press release.

“The coke pusher is one of the key machines of the coke oven battery that ensures the delivery of the finished product from the coking chambers. To ensure the reliability and stability of this process, we decided to replace and upgrade important equipment that operates in aggressive conditions, including sharp temperature changes, as part of the overhaul,” the company said.

The overhaul included the replacement of key components responsible for the uniform distribution of the charge in the chamber and the mechanisms that push the finished coke cake out of the chamber for further quenching. New supporting metal structures, decks, stairs and service platforms for the coke pusher were also manufactured and installed.

The overhaul was carried out in the operating environment, which made it possible to maintain the planned coke production volumes.

“The overhaul of the coke pusher lasted about 9 months and was aimed at improving the reliability of the equipment and preserving the refractory masonry of the coking chambers. This, in turn, will help to extend the overhaul period of the equipment, avoid unplanned downtime and ensure stable blast furnace coke output,” said Alexander Sur, Chief Mechanic of Zaporizhkoks.

There are three coke pushers in use at the plant’s Shaft No. 5-6. To avoid downtime due to malfunctions of these important machines, they are overhauled every 5 years.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in early January, Zaporizhkoks announced the completion of the overhaul of the U-30 charge feeder in the coal preparation shop. The company invested more than UAH 7.6 million in the works, ensuring the long-term operation of an important element of the production chain.

In 2024, Zaporizhkoks increased its blast furnace coke production by 2.1% compared to 2023, to 874.6 thousand tons. In the first quarter, production was 214.82 thousand tons, in the second – 220.36 thousand tons, in the third – 220.1 thousand tons, and in the fourth – 219.36 thousand tons.

Zaporizhkoks is one of the largest coke and chemical producers in Ukraine. It is a part of Metinvest Group. The main consumer of its products is Zaporizhstal Steel Works.
