Support covers debt restructuring, recapitalization, and investments in modernization
Polish coal company Węglokoks, together with its metallurgical subsidiaries Huta Pokój Profile and Huta Pokój Konstrukcje, has signed a social agreement with the Solidarność and Sierpień 80 trade unions. This is another stage in a large-scale restructuring process that began in March 2025, according to XYZ.
According to Węglokoks spokesman Michał Lychak, the parent company will guarantee financial support for both enterprises until the planned goals are achieved. Thanks to this, the restructuring process should proceed smoothly and consistently.
The agreements provide for partial debt conversion, further debt write-offs, and recapitalization of the plants. The main goal is to stabilize the financial condition of the enterprises and create conditions for their development. According to Lychak, the negotiations were difficult and lasted several months, but ended with an agreement that provides a basis for confident operation.
The Solidarność and Sierpień 80 trade unions agreed to the proposed solutions, demonstrating their understanding of the scale of the challenges. This agreement is a continuation of a broader plan approved in the spring. It provides for cost optimization, asset restructuring, company consolidation, and the transfer of some non-core assets to Węglokoks.
A key focus is investment in infrastructure upgrades, including the construction of a new hall for structures and the modernization of production lines. At the same time, the company emphasizes that the restructuring does not involve mass layoffs, but is purely developmental in nature.
In the coming months, Węglokoks will make further decisions regarding Walcowni Blach Batory and Huty Pokój SA. As the management emphasizes, the signed agreement is an important step towards stabilizing the situation and preparing the companies for investments in the future.
In April 2025, Węglokoks signed an agreement with the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management of Poland for a loan of PLN 50 million from the National Recovery Plan. These funds will be used to build a solar power plant with energy storage on the premises of the Huta Pokój metallurgical plant in Ruda Śląska.
