Uzbek steel plant to launch a new line for the production of hot-rolled steel in 2024

The Uzbek Steel Plant plans to launch a new line for the production of hot-rolled coil based on an electric arc furnace in Bekabad in the second half of 2024. Kallanish reports about it.

The equipment supplier is the Italian company Danieli. The contract between UMP and Danieli was concluded in 2019, and the commissioning of the unit was originally planned for 2022.

Equipment deliveries are being completed while the construction contractor continues with the foundation work. At the same time, Danieli’s specialists began to assemble and install production equipment in those places where the construction of the foundation has already been completed.

The smelting shop of the plant has a 120-ton electric arc furnace, a double ladle furnace and a vacuum degassing-oxygen blast system.

The Danieli Quality Strip Production (QSP) line is a compact unit for casting and rolling thin slabs. It includes vertical caster, tunnel furnace, 5-cell hot rolling mill, laminar cooling system and coiler. Hot-rolled coil, which will be produced by the plant, will have a thickness of 1.4-12 mm, a width of 800-1300 mm and be rolled into rolls weighing 30 tons.

The implementation of the project will allow Uzbekistan to become self-sufficient in the production of hot-rolled coil. A significant part of the products will be processed in the Tashkent complex of cold-rolled galvanized and polymer rolled products with a capacity of 500 thousand tons per year.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in December 2020 in Uzbekistan launched Tashkent Steel Plant for the production of cold-rolled steel with galvanized and polymer coating worth $420 million. The production capacity of the plant is up to 750 thousand tons of rolled steel per year.
