Ukrzaliznytsia starts renovation of the railway from Rakhiv to Romania

Ukrzaliznytsia starts restoring tracks on the section of the railway from the Rakhiv station in the Zakarpattia region to the border with Romania, Passenger Transport reported.

In Romania, at the nearest station, Valya-Vysheululi, trains can dock and reload cargo to the Romanian railway.

The railway line from Rakhiv to the Romanian border has not been operated for more than 10-12 years. This section of the railway, built in 1894, passes through Romania and Hungary.

Restoration of railway lines will provide an opportunity for transit traffic from Chop to Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi, and to other points of the Carpathian region through Rakhiv and Delyatyn. In fact, this means the introduction of the movement of the third railway line through the Carpathians.

The length of the railway from Rakhiv to the border with Romania is about 18 km. Changes are already being made to the movement of trains on the existing section to Rakhiv.

Earlier “Railways of Moldova” started restoration work on the railway tracks that run from the border of Ukraine to Romania. The works are carried out on the section Tigina – Basarabeasca – Giurgiulesti with a length of 233 km.

In addition, Ukraine and Moldova signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the development of railway communication between the countries. In autumn 2022, it is planned to return the movement of freight trains on the Berezino (Ukraine) – Bessarabska (Moldova) section of the railway.

Earlier GMK Center reported that in early May, Romania held a tender for the repair of the railway line between the village of Giurgiulesti in Moldova and the port of Galati for the transport of goods from Ukraine. Works are planned to be completed within 60 days from the date of signing the contract.
