In total, the railway operator transported 11.68 million tons of cargo in a month, which is a record figure since the beginning of the war

Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ) in September 2022 reduced the transportation of iron and manganese ores by 21.2% compared to the previous month – to 1.49 million tons. Valery Tkachev, deputy director of Ukrzalitnytsia’s commercial work department, reports about it on his Facebook page.

In general, in September, the railway operator transported 11.68 million tons of cargo, which is 8.4% more than in August 2022.

“This is a new record for the monthly volume of cargo transportation by rail during the war,” Valery Tkachev notes.

The volumes of other goods’ rail transportation in September 2022 were as follows:

  • grain – 3.4 mln tons (+63.2% m/m);
  • coal – 2.19 million tons (+1.6%);
  • mineral building materials – 1.87 million tons (-9.3%).

Export transportation in September 2022 amounted to 5.2 million tons or 44.5% of the total figure for the period.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in August 2022 Ukrzaliznytsia increased cargo transportation by 4.5% compared to the previous month – up to 10.787 million tons.

Export transportation of iron ore in August 2022 decreased by 10.7% compared to the previous month – to 1.4 million tons, and ferrous metals – by 11% m/m, up to 275 thousand tons.

In 2021, UZ reduced transportation of iron and manganese ores by 2.7% compared to 2020 – to 77.6 million tons. Export transportation in 2021 fell by 3% y/y – to 44.6 million tons, and domestic – increased by 3.1%, up to 27.7 million tons.
