Ukrzaliznytsia limited cargo transportation to Moldova

From December 3, 2022, Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ) introduced a convention for the transportation of wagons of the CTL-CIS group to Moldova. Rail.Insider reports about it with the reference to rail operator information.

As the UZ’s message notes, it is prohibited to accept carriages of the CTL-CIS and CTL-CIS-SUD groups for the purpose of ChFM (Railway of Moldova) and transit through it.

The convention also applies to transit to Romania via Mogilev-Podilskyi, Kuchurgan, Reni, Slobidka and Sokyryani stations. It applies to all shipments and all recipients and will be valid until canceled.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia in October 2022 reduced transportation of steel products by 9.2% compared to September 2022 – to 628.4 thousand tons. Compared to October 2021, transportation decreased by 62.3%. In particular, export transportation of ferrous metals in October decreased by 13.4% compared to the previous month – to 330.6 thousand tons. Their share in the total volume of steel transportation by type of connection is 53%.

Also, UZ in 2023-2024 plans to launch 6 new border crossings in western Ukraine to create additional opportunities for exporting Ukrainian goods to European countries. Currently, the railway operator operates 13 freight crossings on the borders with Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova.
