Ukrainian steelmakers reduced exports of long products by 56% m/m in July

In July 2023, metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine reduced the export of long products by 55.7% compared to the previous month, to 27.1 thousand tons. In monetary terms, the export of such products fell by 63.5% m/m – up to $19.1 million. This is evidenced by the data State Customs Service.

Compared to July 2022, in July 2023 Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises reduced their revenue from the sale of long products by 63.5%. Export volumes fell by 39.2% y/y.

In January-July 2023, Ukraine shipped 280.5 thousand tons of long products for export for $227.3 million. Revenue from sales of products abroad decreased by 50.4% compared to the same period last year, and export volumes by 39.9%.

Most of all, bars and hot-rolled bars (Nomenclature – 7213) were exported in 7 months – 128.1 thousand tons for $83.5 million. In July, 8.9 thousand tons were shipped (-63.7% m/m) by $5.23 million (-64.8% m/m). Also, 70.7 thousand tons of carbon steel wire (Nomenclature – 7217) were exported for $67.4 million, in July – 9.4 thousand tons (-13% m/m) for $7.94 million (-14 .8% m/m).

The top three among the types of long products in terms of exports from Ukraine in January-July 2023 are closed by other bars and bars made of carbon steel, without further processing, twisted (Nomenclature – 7214) – 43.64 thousand tons for $26.6 million. In July, metallurgical companies reduced the export of such products by 64.3% compared to the previous month – to 4.67 thousand tons. Income from its shipment fell by 61.5% m/m – up to $2.82 million.

The largest consumers of Ukrainian hot-rolled bars and bars for 7 months of 2023 are Romania and Poland – 46.1% and 27.1%, respectively, in monetary terms. Poland (38.4%) and Germany (21%) consumed about 60% of Ukrainian wire. Among the main buyers of other bars and bars are Moldova (30.3%) and Iraq (30.2%).

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2022 steel enterprises of Ukraine reduced the export of long rolled products by 59.7% compared to 2021 – to 748.95 thousand tons. The revenue of steelmakers from the export of such products fell by 55% y/y – to $693.53 million. The most exported hot-rolled rods and bars in bundles (Nomenclature – 7213) – 406.6 thousand tons for $310 million, which is 56.1% and 54.2% less, respectively, compared to the indicator of 2021.
