Production of rolled products and pig iron grew as well

In 2021, Ukraine’s steelmaking companies ramped up steel production by 3.6% to 21.37 million tons y-o-y, according to the updated statistics of Ukrmetallurgprom.

In 2021, production of rolled products increased by 3.5% to 19.08 million tons, pig iron by 3.6% to 21.17 million tons y-o-y.

The yearly production output totaled:

  • sinter — 32.92 million tons (+3.1% against 2020),
  • coke — 9.54 million tons (-1.3%),
  • pipes and tubes — 0.98 million tons (+15.1%).

As at 12 January 2022, the main production facilities in operation included: 17 out of 21 blast furnaces, 7 out of 8 open-hearth furnaces, 12 out of 16 BOFs, 5 out of 15 electric-arc furnaces, and 16 out of 17 continuous casting machines.

In 2020, companies of Ukraine’s iron & steel industry decreased steel production by 1.1% to 20.62 million tons y-o-y. Production of rolled products in 2020 grew by 1.2% to 18.43 million tons, and production of pig iron grew by 1.8% to 20.42 million tons.
