Ukrainian steelmakers increased the export of long rolled products by 6% m/m in November

In November 2023, Ukrainian steel enterprises increased exports of long products by 6.1% compared to the previous month – to 44.36 thousand tons. In monetary terms, exports of such products increased by 3.2% m/m – to $30.78 million. This is evidenced by the data of the State Customs Service.

Compared to November 2022, in November 2023, Ukrainian steel enterprises reduced their revenue from long products sales by 42.9%. Exports decreased by 36.1% y/y.

In January-November 2023, Ukraine exported 472.7 thousand tons of long products worth $358.6 million. Revenues from sales abroad decreased by 48.4% y/y, while export volumes decreased by 35.4%.

Hot-rolled bars and coils (HS 7213) were exported the most in 11 months, amounting to 188 thousand tons for $118.54 million. In November, the company shipped 14.22 thousand tons (-22.9% m/m) for $8.23 million (-22.7% m/m). The company also exported 113.36 thousand tons of carbon steel wire (HS 7217) for $101.39 million, in November – 8.68 thousand tons (-21.2% m/m) for $7.26 million (-14.5% m/m).

Other rods and bars of carbon steel, not further processed, twisted (HS 7214) are among the top three types of long products in terms of exports from Ukraine in January-November 2023, with 109.37 thousand tons worth $64.19 million. In November, steel companies increased their exports of such products by 2.7 times compared to the previous month – to 16.47 thousand tons. Revenue from shipments increased 2.6 times month-on-month – to $9.5 million.

Romania and Poland were the largest consumers of Ukrainian hot-rolled bars and rods in 11 months of 2023, accounting for 41.6% and 26.8%, respectively, in monetary terms. Poland (38.3%) and Germany (20.6%) consumed about 60% of Ukrainian wire. The main buyers of other rods and bars were Moldova (23.4%) and Iraq (25%).

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2022 steel enterprises of Ukraine reduced the export of long rolled products by 59.7% compared to 2021 – to 748.95 thousand tons. The revenue of steelmakers from the export of such products fell by 55% y/y – to $693.53 million. The most exported hot-rolled rods and bars in bundles (HS – 7213) – 406.6 thousand tons for $310 million, which is 56.1% and 54.2% less, respectively, compared 2021.
