Ukrainian steelmakers exported 465 thousand tons of long products in January-September

Ukrainian steelmakers increased exports of long products by 20.5% in January-September 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, to 465.2 thousand tons. This is evidenced by data from the State Customs Service.

Wire rod accounts for the bulk of exports (HS 7213) – 200.35 thousand tons (+29% y/y). Over 9 months, 82.67 thousand tons of the product were shipped to Romania, 68.12 thousand tons to Poland and 13.14 thousand tons to Bulgaria.

The company also exported 102.68 thousand tons (+9.6% y/y) of carbon steel wire (HS 7217). The bulk was exported to Poland – 37.11 thousand tons, Germany – 19.01 thousand tons, and the Czech Republic – 13.3 thousand tons. Rebar accounted for another 105.87 thousand tons (+21.9% y/y) of exports (HS 7214). The company shipped 37.96 thousand tons of rebar to Moldova and 41.32 thousand tons – to Poland.

In September, Ukraine’s exports of long products decreased by 18% compared to the previous month and increased by 63.5% compared to September 2023, to 66.15 thousand tons. Shipments of wire rod decreased by 17.9% m/m and increased by 228% y/y – to 27.05 thousand tons, wire decreased by 21.7% m/m and increased by 10.4% y/y – to 12.5 thousand tons, and rebar decreased by 4.8% m/m and increased by 97.2% y/y – to 24.56 thousand tons.

Revenues from long products exports in January-September 2024 increased by 16.2% y/y – to $343.55 million, and in September – by 61.6% y/y and fell by 16.3% m/m – to $46.3 million.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, Ukrainian steelmakers reduced exports of long products by 31.4% compared to 2022, to 523.84 thousand tons. Steelmakers’ revenue from exports of such products fell by 45% y/y – to $395.15 million. Wire rod (HS 7213) was exported the most during the year, 209.97 thousand tons for $131.42 million.
