Ukrainian steelmakers exported 399 thousand tons of long products in January-August

In January-August 2024, Ukrainian steel companies increased exports of long products by 15.5% compared to the same period in 2023, to 399.06 thousand tons. This is evidenced by data from the State Customs Service.

Wire rod accounts for the bulk of exports (HS 7213) – 173.3 thousand tons (+17.8% y/y). Over 8 months, 72.37 thousand tons of the product were shipped to Romania, 65.26 thousand tons – to Poland and 10.96 thousand tons – to Bulgaria.

The company also exported 90.18 thousand tons (+9.5% y/y) of carbon steel wire (HS 7217). The bulk was exported to Poland – 31.92 thousand tons, Germany – 16.56 thousand tons, and the Czech Republic – 11.94 thousand tons. Rebar accounted for another 81.3 thousand tons (+9.2% y/y) of exports (HS 7214). The company shipped 32.43 thousand tons of rebar to Moldova and 35.92 thousand tons – to Poland.

In August, Ukraine’s exports of long products increased by 30.4% month-on-month and by 23% compared to August 2023, to 80.7 thousand tons. Shipments of wire rod increased by 55.5% m/m and 74.1% y/y – to 33 thousand tons, wire increased by 63.4% m/m and 37.7% y/y – to 16 thousand tons, and rebar increased by 30.6% m/m and decreased by 16.2% y/y – to 25.81 thousand tons.

Revenues from long products exports increased by 11.4% y/y– to $297.24 million in January-August 2024, and by 31.7% y/y and 27.9% m/m – to $55.33 million in August.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, Ukrainian steelmakers reduced exports of long products by 31.4% compared to 2022, to 523.84 thousand tons. Steelmakers’ revenue from exports of such products fell by 45% y/y – to $395.15 million. Wire rod (HS 7213) was exported the most during the year, 209.97 thousand tons for $131.42 million.
