Transportation of s teelproducts in this direction amounted to 1.24 million tons
In January-October 2024, Ukrainian Railways (UZ) transported 4.27 million tons of iron ore to Poland, up 39% compared to the same period in 2023. This is reported by Rail.Insider with reference to a meeting of UZ representatives with Polish carriers.
In total, over 10 months, 17.62 million tons of cargo were transferred through railway border crossings with Poland, which is 23% more compared to January-October 2023.
Most cargo was transferred through the Izov – Hrubieszów junction – 9.37 million tons (+15% y/y). Mostyska II – Medyka passed 4.4 million tons (+16% y/y), Yahodyn – Dorohusk – 3.36 million tons (+50%), and Rava-Ruska – Verkhrata – 485 thousand tons (+2.9 times).
The top five cargoes with the largest transfer volume, in addition to iron ore, were:
- oil cargo – 2.1 million tons (+60% y/y);
- grain and milling products – 2.03 million tons (-23%);
- construction materials – 1.9 million tons (+140%);
- ferrous metals – 1.24 million tons (-43%).
As GMK Center reported earlier, in September 2024, Ukrainian Railways increased iron ore exports by 1.7% compared to the previous month to 2.361 million tons. In January-September, iron ore export transportation amounted to 25.19 million tons (+2 times y/y).
In 2023, Ukrainian Railways transported 148.4 million tons of cargo, down 1.5%, or 2.2 million tons, compared to 2022. Transportation of iron ore decreased by 13.2% yoy to 27.5 million tons, ferrous metals – by 10.6% y/y – to 8.2 million tons, and grain – by 5.9% y/y, to 30.6 million tons.
