Ukrainian ports handled 6 million tons of cargo in April

Ukrainian seaports handled 6 million tons of cargo in April this year. This was reported in a comment to Ukrinform by the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA).

The largest share in the total transshipment volume in the period under review was grain cargo – 3.1 million tons, and ore – 1 million tons.

In particular, Pivdennyi port handled 2.4 million tons, Chornomorsk – 1.8 million tons, and Odesa port – 1 million tons. The ports of the Danube region (Izmail, Reni, and Ust-Dunaisk) handled about 800 thousand tons of cargo.

In April, 5.3 million tons of cargo were transported through the Ukrainian sea corridor (-45% y/y), 2.9 million tons of which were agricultural products.

According to Vyacheslav Kharkavenko, Deputy Chairman of USPA, despite a number of serious challenges, including a reduction in crop areas due to the full-scale war and a decline in industry, Ukraine’s seaports remain operationally stable even in the face of ultra-high risks. In addition, the spring period is traditionally characterized by a decline in agricultural exports, with volumes starting to grow in mid-summer.

In January-March 2025, Ukrainian ports handled 23 million tons of cargo. Traditionally, the largest transshipment volumes are accounted for by the ports of Greater Odesa, which handled 20.7 million tons of cargo.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Ukrainian seaports handled 18.5 million tons of ore cargo in 2024. Last year, the total cargo turnover of Ukrainian ports reached a record high of 97.2 million tons compared to 62 million tons in 2023, with exports amounting to 88.1 million tons.
