In 2022, the Ukrainian Coke Chemical Plants (UCCP) reduced the production of gross coke of 6% moisture content by 59% compared to 2021 – to 3.91 million tons. Interfax-Ukraine reports about it with the reference to CEO of the association of coke chemical enterprises Ukrkoks, Anatoliy Starovoit’s data.
For 12 months, the production of metallurgical coke amounted to 3.354 million tons. In December 2022, 198 thousand tons of gross coke were produced, including 171 thousand tons of metallurgical coke. Compared to November 2022, the production of coke decreased by 15.7%, in particular metallurgical – by 16.2%.
At the same time, it is specified that Yuzhkoks, Kametstal, DMZ, Zaporizhkoks and coke chemical production at ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih are currently operating. The largest coking plant – Avdiivka Coke Plant – is idle.
In 2022, 4.594 million tons of coal concentrate were delivered to domestic coal-fired power plants, of which Ukrainian production accounted for 3.16 million tons. In December – 340.3 thousand tons (+10.5% m/m).
The president of Ukrmetalurgprom Oleksandr Kalenkov noted in the interview with GMK Center, that Ukrainian steelmakers do not experience a shortage of coking coal, but this is mainly because they work at minimum capacities.
As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2021 Ukrainian coke plants decreased coke production by 1.3% compared to 2020 – to 9.54 million tons. In December 2021, coke production decreased by 4% y/y – to 812 thousand tons.
