Ukraine will develop transport infrastructure on the border with Romania

Ukraine will develop transport infrastructure at checkpoints on the border with Romania and other countries. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reported about it on his Telegram channel.

As the head of the government noted, the western border of Ukraine has become the main logistics corridor, so work on expanding its capacity continues.

At the government meeting, the modernization of existing checkpoints and the construction of new ones were discussed, in particular with Romania, since since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the indicators of turnover in this area have increased by almost 100%.

«According to the estimates of the Reconstruction Agency, the cargo flow can be tripled on the border with Romania. I gave the task to work out the improvement of the relevant infrastructure for cargo transportation both on the Romanian border and on the border with other western neighbors,» said Denys Shmyhal.

In addition, the development of Danube ports and ferry crossings is among the priorities. All these steps in a complex will enable Ukraine to increase exports to the EU, increase the volume of transportation and improve quality when crossing the border.

As GMK Center rpeorted earlier, the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure is planning in 2023 to carry out modernization of automobile checkpoints on the border with five countries. In the current year, first of all, attention will be focused on the most congested directions, in particular, checkpoints on the border with Romania (Dyakove, Porubne, Krasnoilsk, Dyakivtsi, Bila Tserkva).

Also, Ukrainian Railways will receive €200 million in funding from the EBRD, €100 million of which will be used to finance capital investments of the Ukrainian Railways, including the purchase of materials for the restoration of railway corridors from the EU, as well as the renewal of rolling stock.
