Ukraine’s imports of coking coals grew by 10% in 2M 2021

In January–February 2021, Ukrainian coke plants increased imports of coking coals and coking coal concentrate by 10% to 1.46 million tons against the previous year,

according to the updated statistics of Ukrmetallurgprom.

In 2M 2021, shipments of Ukrainian coal to domestic companies amounted to 0.60 million tons, 12.7% up from the same period of 2020.

In January–February, Ukrainian coke plants received a total of 2.06 million tons of coking coals, 2.2% up from the same period of the previous year.

The share of imported coals in the total supply was 70.9%, 5.2 pp up from the same period of the previous year.

In January–February, 1.36 million tons of coke were supplied to Ukrainian plants, 1.6% up from the same period of the previous year. Almost all of the supplied coking coals, 1.33 million tons, were produced in Ukraine. This is 0.5% down from the same period a year earlier. In 2M, Ukraine imported 0.029 million tons of coke.

The share of imported coke in the total volume of supplies made up 2.13%. Ukrainian companies imported no coke at all in January–February 2020.

In 2020, Ukrainian coke plants received 13.29 million tons of coking coals, 3.5% up from 2019. The share of imported coals in the total supply was 72.8%, 1.9 pp down from the previous year.
