Ukraine ranks 10th among the largest pig iron producers in the world

Ukraine retained its 12th position in the ranking of top 64 largest steel producing countries in 2M 2021. In January–February, Ukrainian steelmaking companies reduced production of steel by 1.1% to 3.51 million tons compared to the same period of the previous year, according to Ukrmetallurgprom citing the World Steel Association.

In January–February 2021, Ukraine ramped up pig iron production by 4.5% to 3.51 million tons y-o-y, which brought the country the 10th position in the ranking of the world’s largest pig iron producers.

In February 2021, the global steel production increased by 4.1% to 150.2 million tons against February 2020.

The top 3 steel producing countries, according to the World Steel, includes:

  • China — 83 million tons (+10.9% against February 2020),
  • India — 9.1 million tons (-3.1%),
  • Japan — 7.5 million tons (-5.6%).

As reported earlier, in 2020, the global steel production declined by 0.9% to 1.864 billion tons against 2019. In the same year, Ukraine reduced steel production by 1.1% to 20.6 million tons and took the 11th position in the ranking of top 64 largest steel producing countries in the world.
