Ukraine increased pipe production by 16% in H1

In January–June 2021, Ukrainian major pipe companies increased production by 16.4% to 470.8 thousand tons compared to the same period of the previous year, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

In June, Ukraine produced 94.3 thousand tons of pipes.

Member companies of Ukrtruboprom increased production of pipes by 16.1% to 309.4 thousand tons in H1, including 68.4 thousand tons in June.

“For the fourth month in a row, production of seamless pipes at Ukrtruboprom member companies has been growing due to a favorable situation in foreign markets. As of now, we consider uncontrolled export of scrap as the main risk for the stable operation of pipe plants,” said Georgiy Polsky, General Director of Ukrtruboprom.

In January–June, Interpipe companies produced:

  • Interpipe NTRP — data are not available;
  • Interpipe NMPP — 27.5 thousand tons (-23.2%);
  • Interpipe NIKO TUBE — 230.4 thousand tons (+55.8%).

In H1, Dniprovskiy Pipe Works was idle, while in the same period of the previous year it produced 0.3 thousand tons. Centravis cut production by 10.2% to 8.8 thousand tons. Production at Trubostal shrank by 11.1% to 1 thousand tons.

Non-member companies of Ukrtruboprom showed the following results in H1:

  • Ilyich Iron and Steel Works — 79.6 thousand tons (+12.6% against 2020);
  • Kominmet — 85.9 thousand tons (+28.6%).

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2020, Ukraine’s pipes exports decreased by 22.8% to 473.1 thousand tons against 2019. Revenues from pipes exports dropped by 22% to $521.9 million.

In 2020, Ukraine cut production of pipes by 16.3% to 854 thousand tons against 2019.
