Ukraine increased its exports of long rolled products by 44.4% y/y in January-August

In January-August 2025, Ukrainian steel companies increased exports of long rolled steel by 44.4% compared to the same period in 2024, to 576.04 thousand tons. This is evidenced by GMK Center calculations based on data from the State Customs Service.

Almost 40% of the total volume of long rolled steel exports accounted for other carbon steel bars and rods, without further processing, twisted (HS code 7214) – 221.71 thousand tons (+38.5% y-o-y). The bulk of the products were sent to Poland – 124.91 thousand tons. Another 58.58 thousand tons were exported to Moldova, and 5.33 thousand tons – to Lithuania.

During the period, Ukrainian manufacturers also exported 228.46 thousand tons of hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel in coils (HS code 7213), which is 31.8% more than last year. Romania received 109.39 thousand tons, Poland – 58.59 thousand tons, and Bulgaria – 17.83 thousand tons.

Another 87.48 thousand tons (-3% y-o-y) of exports were accounted for by carbon steel wire (HS code 7217). Key consumers include Poland (32.09 thousand tons), Germany (16.37 thousand tons), and the Czech Republic (10.82 thousand tons).

In August 2025, exports of long products from Ukraine amounted to 77.07 thousand tons, which is 4.5% less than in August 2024 and 11.4% less than in the previous month. Shipments of other carbon steel bars and rods, not further processed, twisted amounted to 27.29 thousand tons (+5.8% y/y; -25.6% m/m), hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel, in coils – 34.06 thousand tons (+3.3% y/y; -4.7% m/m), and wire – 9.74 thousand tons (-39% y/y; -4.4% m/m).

Foreign exchange earnings from exports of long products in January-August increased by 35% y/y – to $401.24 million, while in August they fell by 1.9% y/y and 10.4% m/m – to $54.27 million.

It should be noted that in 2024, Ukraine increased its exports of long rolled metal products by 17.3% compared to 2023, from 523.34 thousand tons to 613.73 thousand tons. More than 42% of the total volume of long product exports is accounted for by hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel in coils (HS code 7213) – 258.33 thousand tons (+23% y/y). Foreign exchange earnings from long products exports in 2024 increased by 15.1% y-o-y to $452.18 million.
