In January-February, shipments increased by 42% y/y

In February 2025, Ukraine increased imports of long steel products by 2.5 times compared to February 2024, to 18.37 thousand tons. The figure increased by 2.9 times compared to the previous month. This is according to GMK Center’s calculations based on the State Customs Service data.

Most of all, angles, shapes and special profiles made of unalloyed steel (HS 7216) were imported over the month, amounting to 9.56 thousand tons, up 5.2 times yoy and 2.9 times m/m. Hot-rolled rods and bars made of carbon steel accounted for a significant share of supplies, with 5.04 thousand tons in coils (HS 7213).

In January-February of this year, imports of long products to Ukraine increased by 42% compared to the same period in 2024, to 24.62 thousand tons.

Imports of angles, shapes and special profiles made of unalloyed steel increased by 57.4% y/y – to 12.88 thousand tons. Most of them were imported from Moldova – 10.35 thousand tons. Another 1.71 thousand tons were imported from Poland.

Supplies of hot-rolled rods and bars made of carbon steel in coils (wire rod) amounted to 5.07 thousand tons, up from 0.03 thousand tons a year earlier. Almost the entire volume was imported from China – 5.02 thousand tons.

In January-February, the cost of importing long products increased by 25.5% y/y – to $24.84 million. In February, the figure increased by 2 times y/y and 2.6 times m/m – to $17.96 million.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2024, Ukraine increased imports of long products by 12.1% compared to 2023, up to 171.9 thousand tons.

Angles, shapes and special profiles (HS 7216) accounted for the bulk of supplies, amounting to 76.69 thousand tons, up 47.9% y/y. Turkey supplied 57.88 thousand tons of the relevant products to the Ukrainian market (+25.8% y/y), Poland – 11.98 thousand tons (+9%), Germany – 2.38 thousand tons (+80.1%).

Also, 43.84 thousand tons of other rods and bars of carbon steel, without further processing, twisted (HS 7214) were imported, which is 29.7% less than in 2023. Turkey imported 35.99 thousand tons of such products (-20.7% y/y).
